Nagyon röviden: az átlagnál melegebb északi sarkvidéki tengerek következtében erősebb lehet a szárazföldek lehűlése télen, főleg a nagyobb mennyiségű hó és jég miatt. De itt azért van egy rahedli összefüggés még közben, nem ilyen egyszerű.
