Motorists are requested not to travel unless absolutely essential. In case of emergencies relating to flooding please phone 091-509309.
Please do not interfere with road signage e.g traffic cones, reflectors etc. that have been put in place by the Council.
The following are the principal routes affected, however, there are many other routes impassable and extreme caution is advised on all routes.
N18 Galway to Gort Road ---closed at Kiltartan on Galway side of Gort. Traffic coming from Galway City to Clarenbridge, Kilcolgan and Ardrahan may still use the N18. Traffic travelling from Galway City to South of Adrahan including Kiltartan and Gort town should use the diversion on the N6 via Oranmore, Craughwell and Loughrea and from Loughrea to Gort on the N66. Traffic travelling to Ennis, Limerick & Shannon Airport should also use the diversion via the N6 from Oranmore and the N66 from Gort. Traffic from Limerick, Ennis & Gort to Galway City should use diversions via Loughrea on the N66 and on to Craughwell and Oranmore on the N6.
N18 – Galway to Limerick Road – impassable at Crow Street, Gort. Local diversions in place.
N17 - Impassable and still closed at Claregalway. Diversions in place: travelling on the N17 from Tuam via Loughgeorge follow the diversions in place for Galway. If travelling from Galway to Tuam: take the N84 Galway Headford Road through Clonboo , turn right at Corrandulla Cross for Loughgeorge, turn left onto the N17 for Tuam.
N84 Galway to Headford Road--- Road flooded at the River Clare Bridge but passable. Significant tailbacks and long delays expected. Drivers are asked to avoid this area if possible.
N63 – Galway to Roscommon Road - impassable and road closed between Horsesleap Cross and Moylough. Diversions in place.
N63—Galway to Roscommon Road—impassable and closed between Turloughmore and Annagh Cross diversions in place via Tuam.
N65 between Portumna and the Tipperary border (River Shannon) – impassable and Bridge Crossing at Portumna is closed. Alternative route as follows:
From Galway: Detour from Killimor to Eyrecourt to Banagher on the R356: Then on wards to Birr on the R 439 and from Birr to Borrisokane on the N52.
To :Galway : Detour from Borrisokane to Birr on the N52, Birr to Banagher on the R439, then onwards to Eyrecourt and Killimor on the R356
N6 at Craughwell is now open to traffic
The M6 from Loughrea to Galway City will remain open subject to review. In the meantime drivers are asked to obey all signals, stay in lane and no overtaking. The maximum speed limit is 50 kilometres per hour. Pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed on the M6
N6 – Still impassable at Ballinasloe –
The Ballinasloe Section of the M6 is open on a temporary basis East and West of Ballinasloe bypassing the town of Ballinasloe. Drivers are asked to obey all signals, stay in lane and no overtaking. The maximum speed limit is 50 kilometres per hour.
R349 – Loughrea to Athenry -- flooded but passable
R339 – Galway to Monivea Road –still impassable between Carnmore Cross and Monivea—diversions via Athenry in place.
Athenry to Monivea --- road flooded at a number of locations but passable. Proceed with caution.
R364 Ballymoe to Glenamaddy Road is closed but diversions in place.
R360 Williamstown to Dunmore impassable and closed with local diversions in place.
R333 – Headford to Caherlistrane – impassable, however from Queallys Pub Caherlistrane to Tuam is passable.
Weir Road Tuam to Caherlistrane impassable
N6 – Impassable at Ballinasloe –
The Ballinasloe Section of the M6 is open on a temporary basis East and West of Ballinasloe bypassing the town of Ballinasloe. Drivers are asked to obey all signals, stay in lane and no overtaking. The maximum speed limit is 50 kilometres per hour.
Galway County Council, Ballinasloe Town Council, An Garda Siochana, Civil Defence, HSE and the Army Services are working together to ensure that any necessary action is taken and updates will be given on local radio on a regular basis and are also available on Galway County Councils website: www.galway.ie
Please note that flood waters are continuing to rise in some areas.
